Back to School Apps!

Welcome to Mac Tips!

This week, we will be focusing on the lead up to back to school by going through some must-have productivity apps to help you get ready for the coming year.

Evernote (Price: Free)

Evernote is an essential productivity application for iOS and OS X. The clean interface allows you to take notes in an uncluttered space, attach Office documents, PDFs, and photos to notes, and organize notebooks with stacks or tags (i.e., by semester or subject). The best part of Evernote is its universal availability: Evernote is available on Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod, and Android and syncs your notes, notebooks, stacks, and tags between all your devices for studying and note-taking at home, school, or on-the-go.

Wunderlist (Price: Free)

Like Evernote, Wunderlist has been voted an essential Mac productivity application several years in a row. Wunderlist is another application designed to help you stay organized and get things done. The premise is simple: Wunderlist allows you to create to-do lists that sync across all your devices. A recent update to the application added the ability to organize to-do lists into folders (i.e., folders for work, school, and personal tasks). With reminders (by e-mail or notifications) and due dates to keep you on track and the ability to share lists with friends, coworkers, and family, Wunderlist is an essential back-to-school app and deserving of the title Mac App of the Year (2013).

Sunrise Calendar (Price: Free)

Sunrise is a free calendar application that syncs with Google Calendar and iCloud and other apps like Facebook, Evernote, and Wunderlist to organize events from all aspects of your life. Sunrise is available for both iOS and OS X and syncs flawlessly between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac so you can access your calendar at home or on-the-go. The most unique aspect of Sunrise is Meet, a feature that allows you to select available time slots in your calendar and send them as meeting time options to your contacts through a link. When the invitee receives the link and picks the option that works for them, the event is automatically created in your calendar. Sunrise also comes with the ability to add calendars from their “Interesting Calendars” category, allowing you to keep track of your favourite sports teams, TV shows, and national and regional holidays.
